eCoverNinja, the story so far (part 1)

Once upon a time…

Isn’t that how every great fairytale begins?

This is no fairytale…

I’m going to tell you a story, a true story, a long story, the greatest story I’ve ever told…

Before I begin, a warning…

This is the story of a man… a man who found his true calling… a man who enjoyed the highs, suffered the lows and struggled through the middles.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to tell my story and lay my life bare – as a warning, and for inspiration.

This is the tale of how I, Karl Warren, became eCoverNinja, the most respected sales page graphic designer on the Internet Marketing scene and sabotaged it all. The lessons I learned along the way, and the lessons I’ve learned in hindsight.

This is a story with a beginning, a middle, and thanks to some very careful soul searching, no end…

Are you ready? Hold tight, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

It all began a long long time ago, on a web marketing forum in a galaxy not too far from here actually – you might know it.

Picture the scene…

A 26 year old man taps away on Google, sick to death of answering to a boss that has no respect for anyone in a job that he hates…

You know, the kind of boss that talks down to you in front of your colleagues, tells you to do things rather than asking politely, makes every single day a living nightmare – sucking the life out of you one day at a time.

I’d had enough – here I was, at home, sitting in front of a computer screen, almost begging it to save me from the monotony…

“How do I make money on the Internet”
“How can I make money online”
“How can I tell my boss to get stuffed”

Every search opened a new door, each door led to a world of wonder…

What the hell was affiliate marketing?
How on earth are these people selling books without pages?
What in the world is Pay Per Click?

I didn’t know what it all meant, but I was going to find out!

Eventually I stumbled on a website, it was different to the rest, it hit me right where I felt most pain…

It hit me in my pride…

“Hey loser,” it began… “I make millions online, and you don’t!”

The page was talking directly to me, it drew me in, it convinced me to keep reading and then promised to reveal the secrets to me for only $97.

I wasn’t broke, my job paid my bills, I had a credit card and I was ready to learn – what’s the worst that could happen?

[What’s the worst that could happen? How about being completely broke, making a string of disastrous choices, a gambling addiction and completely destroying your own health for a start… but we’ll come to that later.]

That’s how easily I was sucked in to the Make Money Online world…

A sales page that stood out, a few words that spoke directly to my emotions, and a product which promised me the solution to all my problems.

That’s how this story begins…

In fact, that’s exactly how the story began for thousands more people desperate to change their miserable lives in search of freedom, money and a life they’d always dreamed of.

So, what happened next?

That’s when the adrenalin began to kick in…
I clicked the buy button…
Entered my credit card details…
Hit send…

Was it all a big scam?
Will I be sent a bunch of junk?
Will it work for me?

A reassuring ‘ding’ and a notification in my email inbox at least showed me I hadn’t just handed my details to a credit card fraud ring.

The email told me to ‘click here to download’…

So I did…

Up popped a new web page with a few links on it…

One of the links told me to ‘click here to download’…

So I did.

To say I was disappointed would be like telling you the Titanic was sunk by an ice cube…

What I had bought could only be described as a basic overview of affiliate marketing, and a pitch to buy more training.

During my Google search phase, I’d already discovered most of what was included in this magical, life changing ebook – I’d spent just under a hundred bucks to tell myself things I already knew.

Normally, I’d be pissed off – but, I wasn’t.

Why not?

The truth is, buying the product taught me a valuable lesson – it really opened my eyes to the possibilities.

The lesson was simple, but I’ve never forgotten it…

People like me, and there are millions of them, will pay for information that promises to solve their problems.

The product itself wasn’t going to make me money, but making products sure will.

Right there, I made my mind up…

I will be the guy who sits around all day in his underwear, being paid to…

Um…
To…

What the hell was I going to do?

The story continues in Part 2 later this week…
